What is Wingman in CS2? Maps, Rules & Strategies

KeyDrop Team

Wingman is a game mode added to Counter-Strike in 2017 which allows players to compete on smaller versions of classic maps in 2v2 contests. We could finish this article here, but hey, that would be boring, wouldn’t it? That’s why, let’s tell you more about Wingman in CS2!

How Do You Play Wingman in CS2?

Simply select Wingman from the game modes menu. You can either queue with a friend, or alone to be matched with another random player. That’s all you have to do!

Are the Maps the Same?

Wingman features small maps (limited to one bomb site). All current CS2 maps are “small” versions of an existing map: Inferno, Nuke, Overpass or Vertigo, limited to one site.

For Inferno, the site in question is A, and terrorists spawn in mid, making the contact extremely fast-paced.

On Overpass, the site is B (making it extremely hard for the terrorists), and the Ts spawn near graffiti.

On Nuke, B site is also the arena, with Terrorists spawning in Secret, while CTs span on ramp.

And on Vertigo, we face off on B once again. The spawns do not change.

Are the Rules the Same?

The economy is a bit different, with round losses not being as punishing. However, on the flip side, Wingman is played in a MR9 format, meaning you need to win 9 rounds to win the game.

Can You Rank Up in Wingman?

Wingman has separate ranks, reminiscent of the CS2 days of yore. You won’t get a random point value here. Instead, you’ll be one of the following CS2 Wingman ranks:

  • Silver (I, II, III, IV)
  • Gold Nova (I, II, III, IV)
  • Master Guardian (I, II, Elite)
  • Distinguished Master Guardian
  • Legendary Eagle
  • Legendary Eagle Master
  • Supreme Master First Class
  • Global Elite

As in good ‘ole CS:GO, we have no idea what goes into rank ups and rank downs. There’s definitely a hidden MMR involved, but it’s just that, hidden. Check out our guide to CS2 ranks to find out more about how they work in Competitive and Premier modes, though.

What Are Good Strategies for Wingman?

Playing as terrorists in Wingman can be hell. That’s why, you should learn some basic utility to help you enter the site. With equal firepower and the inability to create a numbers game, the CTs are essentially constantly full-stacked on the position you want to attack. This means you’ll need to throw mollies and smokes to cover your approach and give yourself a chance.

Other than that, communicate, click heads, and do what you’d do in a normal CS2 game, and you’ll be good! Find out more about how to get better at CS2 here.

And that’s all! Wingman in CS2 is simple, but if you have any questions, feel free to hit us up on the socials. If you’re heading out to play, may the netcode be forever in your favor!
