All CS2 Cases with Butterfly Knife Skins

KeyDrop Team

The chances of dropping a butterfly knife from an official CS2 case are pretty remote, but hey—one can dream, right? Besides, remote doesn’t mean impossible: there’s always a fair chance that you’ll get lucky.

But before you can try your hand at opening some cases, you need to know which ones contain the knives you want. So, without further ado, here’s a list of all butterfly knife cases in CS2, plus a few tips on prices and values.

Operation Breakout Weapon Case

First up, the good ol’ Operation Breakout Weapon Case. It was released on July 1st, 2014 with the “Operation Breakout” update, which actually introduced butterfly knives into the game in the first place. That’s why you can find the Vanilla version of the knife in this case!

The Operation Breakout Case contains 27 skins in total, including 13 butterfly knife skins—the most butterfly knife skins you’ll see in a single case. Other notable contents are the two coverts: M4A1-S | Cyrex and P90 | Asiimov. Neither of them are very valuable (up to $35–$40 for Factory New), but they’re still cool additions to any inventory.

Anyway, here are all the butterfly knives found in the Operation Breakout Weapon Case:

In terms of value, these knives fall roughly in the lower-middle of the butterfly knife price bracket. The prices of butterfly knives in general range from a few hundred dollars to around $20k (for the Gamma Doppler Emerald or Doppler Sapphire), though most skins don’t exceed a few thousand. Meanwhile, the knives found in this case sell for between $450 (Urban Masked, Scorched, Safari Mesh) and $6k (Factory New Crimson Web). The Fade skin is also among the most valuable in this case, reaching up to $2.5k.

Already looking to buy this case? The Steam Community Market has thousands of listings for it—check them out here

Spectrum Case

The Spectrum Case was released on March 15th, 2017 with the update that brought us Canals, the now-inactive map that players tended to either love or hate, with no in-between.

The case contains 47 skins in total, including 17 community-designed firearm skins and 30 knife skins. Among them, you’ll find 6 butterfly knife skins (12 if you counted various Doppler phases as separate skins).

Noteworthy items include Doppler skins for the huntsman knife, Bowie knife, falchion, and shadow daggers, plus the ever-popular AK-47 | Bloodsport. There’s also a chance to find the blue/magenta Covert USP-S | Neo-Noir

Here’s a list of the butterfly knife skins found in the Spectrum Case:

Spectrum is one of two cases with Doppler skins for butterfly knives—the other being Spectrum 2. Unsurprisingly, the most valuable skin in this case is the Doppler Sapphire—Factory New ones with the lowest float regularly exceed $20k in price. Doppler Ruby skins reach $10k–$15k. On the other end of the scale in this case is the Rust Coat, worth around $500.

You can find lots of listings for this case on the Steam Community Market.

Spectrum 2 Case

Spectrum 2 came out on September 14th, 2017 with the “China, are you ready?” update, when CS:GO was officially released in mainland China. It can drop 47 skins, including 17 firearm skins. Most notable among them are the two Coverts, the gorgeous AK-47 | The Empress and the P250 | See Ya Later

Unfortunately, Spectrum 2 didn’t introduce any new knife skins. It contains the same 30 knives as Spectrum, including the same butterfly knives:

Check out Steam listings for the Spectrum 2 Case here.

Operation Riptide Case

The Operation Riptide Case appeared on September 21st, 2021 with—you guessed it—“Operation Riptide”. The update also brought us tons of new stickers, patches, agent skins, and four skins collections (Mirage, Train, Dust 2, and Vertigo).

Among its 17 firearm skins, the Desert Eagle | Ocean Drive and AK-47 | Leet Museo are the rarest (and most valuable). The 30 new knives in this case include Gamma Doppler and Lore skins for the huntsman knife, Bowie knife, falchion, and shadow daggers.

But you’re here for butterfly knife skins, so here they are—in the Operation Riptide case, you can find:

With prices reaching $20k, the Gamma Doppler Emerald skin is by far the most expensive in this selection and beyond: it’s one of the most expensive CS2 skins in general. The other Gamma Dopplers are usually valued at $2k–$4k, Autotronic reaches up to $2k, and Lore has a large price range depending on the float—from around $700 to nearly $5k. Laminate, Bright Water, and Freehand are all worth between $600–$1k.

The Operation Riptide Case has been discontinued in the game, so there’s a limited supply of them in both the Steam Market and third-party case-trading sites. Still, at the time of writing, you can browse thousands of offers for this case—albeit at higher prices compared to the other cases on this list.

Keep in mind that the Operation Riptide Case doesn’t include rarer items or better odds—it’s only more expensive because of its limited supply. The active Dreams and Nightmares Case contains all the same butterfly knives as Operation Riptide Case with the same odds, but at a much lower price.

Dreams and Nightmares Case

The Dreams and Nightmares case came out as a standalone update on January 20th, 2022. It brought us 17 new community-designed firearm skins, including the AK-47 | Nightwish and P9 | Starlight Protector

As mentioned above, Dreams and Nightmares contains all the same knives as Operation Riptide, including the same 6 butterfly knife skins:

If you intend to buy cases specifically to try dropping a butterfly knife from this list, you’re better off getting Dreams and Nightmares. At the time of writing, it only costs around $1, compared to $6 for the Operation Riptide Case. You can browse the Steam listings for Dreams and Nightmares here

Key-Drop Butterfly Knife Cases

There are plenty of cases to open here on Key-Drop that feature butterfly knife skins. The Knives case is an obvious one, and it has a chance of dropping Doppler and Gamma Doppler skins. The Joker case is another example, with a chance to drop Butterfly Knife | Tiger Tooth and Butterfly Knife | Scorched

Knives and Joker are just a couple of many options—honestly, there are too many butterfly knife cases on Key-Drop to list here, and we’re always adding new ones.

A more efficient way of finding cases that may interest you is to visit the page of the skin you’re after. Just click one of the links in this article (including the galleries) or use the search bar. Once you’re on the product page for your skin, scroll down to see all of our cases in which it appears.
